UK NMC Declared Change in the OSCE Policy

​This is one of the most remarkable changes from the UK NMC, ever since 2014. After receiving constant feedback from the applicants and the employers, on 06.07.2018 NMC officially declared the first of a series of the changes as part of their revision of the overseas process. NMC declared that “We’re changing the resit requirements for applicants sitting the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE)”.

The OSCE re-sit change bought by the NMC states; "The test centers will only require applicants to re-sit the parts of the OSCE assessment they failed and will not need to re-sit parts of the exam they have previously passed". NMC mentioned the new rule on re-sit the OSCE assessment to be applicable for the nurses and midwives trained outside the UK and European Economic Area (EEA) from 16 July 2018.

OSCE being considered the toughest part of the registration, with this change, has brought in a great sense of relief to the applicants. As per the NMC reports this positive change will make the test more proportionate and flexible for candidates that re-resit, and to those providing support to them. NMC also mention that they will be implementing a new test of competence later this year. However, this new change has definitely brought in a great support to the applicants and paves the way to make the process much more simple and prompt.
