ROLE SUMMARY

Responsibility for the delivery of all aspects of nursing care for residents within the nursing home, ensuring a high standard of clinical practice, dignity, and person-centred care. To provide safe, effective, and responsive care while complying with regulatory requirements, organisational policies, and professional standards.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualised nursing care for residents using a person-centred approach
  • Monitor residents’ physical and mental health, recognising changes in condition and taking appropriate action
  • Administer and manage medications safely, including controlled drugs, in line with professional guidelines and policies
  • Develop and review care plans and risk assessments (e.g. falls, pressure sores, nutrition, mobility)
  • Provide clinical leadership and supervision to care assistants and junior staff
  • Ensure accurate, up-to-date, and legally compliant clinical documentation and record keeping
  • Respond to emergencies and incidents, including first aid, deterioration, and safeguarding concerns
  • Support residents with chronic conditions, disabilities, and mental health needs, including dementia care
  • Deliver palliative and end-of-life care, ensuring dignity, comfort, and emotional support
  • Liaise with GPs, pharmacists, families, and multidisciplinary teams to coordinate care
  • Maintain infection prevention and control standards across the home
  • Participate in handovers to ensure continuity of care
  • Promote residents’ independence, dignity, and wellbeing at all times
  • Ensure compliance with NMC standards, CQC regulations, and organisational policies
